I grew up in Nigeria and in the Bronx, NY. I graduated from American University in 2019 with a BS in Economics, concentrating in Finance and International Relations.
After my undergraduate studies, I worked as a corporate finance analyst in a two-year rotational program at a bulge bracket investment bank. I gained business management and financial analysis skills. I did not enjoy working with the legacy database systems at this bank. This frustration was one of my introductions to tech.
Next, I pivoted to a product management role as a business analyst for a leading global corporate governance advisory firm. Over there, I recognized the importance of user-driven product development. Much of my work focused on market research, documenting the user story, mapping out features from this user story, and talking to potential internal web application users.
My prior roles focused on using systems and collaborating with various stakeholders. I am getting a graduate degree in computer science to understand the technicalities of building software applications and become a well-rounded product manager. Luckily, I found the Align CS program to help with the transition, especially since I had little programming experience.
I am looking forward to co-op, which will give me industry experience. I plan to work for a fintech company during my co-op.
After the program, I see an entrepreneurial future in merging my love for music, sports, and personal finance with some tech solutions. I look forward to growing as a computer scientist and working on cool projects.
Finally, I have a responsibility to help in the work of diversifying the tech industry. I plan to do more racial equity advocacy work and build communities to ensure other technologists like me succeed.
