I majored in Japanese language at UMass Amherst and went on to complete an MA in International Education Management from The Middlebury Institute for International Studies in Monterey. I lived and worked in Japan as an archaeologist, sake brewer, and ESOL teacher for a few years in between. The Align program looked like a great opportunity to take my skills and experience and apply them to computer science. I’ve been interested in computational linguistics and natural language processing but didn’t have any sort of CS background to build on.
I hope to be a web and app development professional. Since my background is in languages, I hope to do something that blends language learning or linguistics with computer science.
