Biography

Xiaoyi Yang is an assistant teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.

After completing her doctorate in statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, Yang spent two years as a tenure-track professor of mathematics at Creighton University. When she realized that her real passion did not lie in research, she moved to join Khoury College, where she could devote herself to what she loves: working with students, working with the community, and continuing her own learning. At Khoury College, Yang teaches machine learning courses. She is drawn to the topic because of the way it intersects with statistics and computer science, and because it offers an opportunity to balance theory with practical coding and real-world applications.

When she’s not at work, Yang is an animal lover; she has two cats and volunteered with the Nebraska Humane Society during her time at Creighton.
