Biography
Seyed Ali Akhavani is a doctoral student in the computer science program at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. He is advised by Engin Kirda and is interested in web security and user privacy. Akhavani believes that strong security methods are needed to defend data against threats and attacks without sacrificing application performance; therefore, he has dedicated his work to studying new security problems and challenges in computer science.
Akhavani would like to use machine learning methods to automate vulnerability detection in web applications. By using machine learning, he hopes to test application vulnerabilities in a more efficient and targeted way. With the rise in cyberattacks, he finds the novelty of his work most fascinating – always finding unique ways to defend data against these attacks. Going forward, Akhavani would like to use his academic knowledge and skills in the industry to ensure users' privacy in large-scale web applications.
