Biography
Mohit Singhal is an assistant teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.
Singhal’s research focuses on content moderation and how it affects users and platforms. The specifics of platform governance and enforcement hold a lot of sway over user behavior, and Singhal works to understand how challenges and gaps in content moderation can lead to catastrophe. Additionally, his research examines how biases in automated moderation systems and ranking systems affect users and businesses. His research was the first to uncover the spread of misinformation about security and privacy threats on Zoom, and his work on content moderation has been cited in multiple cases at the US Supreme Court and the European Union.
Singhal joined Khoury College after completing his doctorate in computer science with a focus on computational social sciences and social media content moderation. He is excited to contribute to the world around him and honor his own instructors by educating the next generation of computer scientists.
In his free time, Singhal enjoys playing tennis, swimming, traveling, and reading World War II history and thrillers.
