Biography

Mackenzie Creamer is a Khoury Distinguished Fellow and doctoral student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He is advised by Michelle Borkin

Since joining Khoury College in 2023, Creamer has researched several areas of visualization. He is particularly interested in the impact that policy changes around visual literacy can have on different student populations, and wants to help people understand graphical representations of data. His love for data visualization stems from his experience using data to help others understand their financial situations, and that love also extends to the spreadsheeting he does in his life outside of academia.

Prior to joining Khoury College, Creamer studied computer science at the University of Maine, where he worked on an exploratory analysis interface to examine students from different cohorts and classes. Outside of his work in computer science, he assisted Sierra Leonean students in tackling their exams to ensure that they could continue their formal education.

When he’s not working or researching, Creamer can be found baking; playing video, board, and card games; and training his cat Mac to communicate using soundboard buttons.
