Biography
Kechen Qin is a PhD student studying natural language processing at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Javed A. Aslam. A native of Beijing, China, Kechen spent his undergraduate years at Wuhan University in China, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and he spent his graduate years in Brandeis University, where he received his master’s degree.
Kechen’s research focuses on machine learning, natural language processing, and information retrieval. His current research includes studying persuasiveness in arguments, and deciphering the effectiveness of a discussion.
What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?
I have been working on natural language processing and argument mining.
What are your research interests?
I am interested in natural language processing and data mining. We are currently working on exploring the persuasiveness of an argument and the effectiveness of a discussion.
What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?
Filtering inappropriate languages on the internet.
What aspect of what you do is most interesting?
Applying natural language processing and machine learning technologies to solve real world problems makes me feel excited. For example, by modeling the reasoning behind an argument we can predict the persuasiveness of it.
Where did you study for your undergraduate degree?
I really enjoyed my undergraduate life in Wuhan University. It is known for having one of the most beautiful campuses in the world.
