Sarathy’s research explores the political and sociotechnical dynamics of responsible data science, with a focus on privacy and data access. Incorporating technical computer science expertise and social science theory, she analyzes public-interest data infrastructures such as the US federal statistical system and the Wikimedia Foundation. Sarathy has published a variety of papers in CS conferences, including ACM CHI, CSCW, PETS, and FORC, as well as in interdisciplinary and social science journals such as Critical Sociology, the Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology, and the Harvard Data Science Review.
Sarathy joined Khoury College as a senior research fellow in 2024, drawn to the college’s leadership in reimagining CS beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. She is excited by the opportunity to engage with the next generation of technologists and encourage them to center sociotechnical perspectives and political advocacy in their work.
In her free time, Sarathy loves to play golf, read fiction, and sing.
