Biography
Georgios Syros is a doctoral student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He is advised by Alina Oprea and Cristina Nita-Rotaru.
Syros’s pursuit of a computer science doctorate stems from his overarching goal of seeking knowledge, as well as the inspiration he gained from his undergraduate studies and research collaborations. He is passionate about cutting-edge research that can benefit society, especially in his focal areas of machine learning and distributed system security. These issues raise novel privacy concerns that, Syros believes, warrant systematic study to ensure that their potential benefits to society are maximized.
Before joining Khoury College in 2023, Syros worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Maryland’s Cybersecurity Center and the Athens University of Economics and Business’s Mobile Multimedia Lab. During those stints, he dealt with adversarial machine learning, distributed ledger technologies, and decentralized storage networks. Now, Syros focuses on developing robust, secure, and distributed systems that can be deployed in real-world scenarios, fostering collaborative learning without compromising privacy or security.
In his free time, Syros loves hiking and playing the electric guitar.
