Biography
Felix Muzny is the director of teaching assistants, a clinical instructor, and a doctoral student at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.
Muzny’s teaching and research both focus on computing education, digital humanities, and the intersection of sociology, ethics, and computing. They care deeply about making computing classrooms more welcoming for all students, and they are particularly interested in the intersection of computing with queer and trans issues. Muzny enjoys working with beginner computer science students and introducing them to programming languages in an accessible way, as well as working with more advanced students on digital humanities and natural language processing (NLP).
After completing their master’s in computer science, Muzny joined the University of Colorado Boulder to teach courses in introductory programming, software engineering, TA pedagogy, and NLP, and to work in the Laboratory for Playful Computation. They jumped to Northeastern University in 2020 and taught for two years before resuming work on their doctorate, which they had begun at Stanford. Muzny also works with their doctoral advisor Carla Brodley at the Center for Inclusive Computing.
In addition to their involvement in their local Out in Tech chapter, Muzny has created a special topics course called “TA Training and Pedagogy” and has published papers and journal articles on inclusive computing, digital humanities, and NLP.
