Biography

Anna Sloan is an assistant directory of academic advising at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. She received her master’s in education administration from the University of Rochester, where she served as a program assistant for the writing center. In this role, Sloan coordinated writing tutoring, university writing events, and offered one-on-one writing consultations for undergraduate and graduate students. Sloan's work as an undergraduate writing tutor led her to further her education and pursue a career in higher education administration. In 2019, she joined the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester as an academic advisor. She enjoyed working with students one-on-one and in groups to understand what they were struggling with and how she could support them.

In her role at Northeastern, Sloan supports students as they navigate their degree paths and academic challenges. This includes reaching out to students when she thinks they might be struggling, answering students’ questions about their programs and courses, and generally helping students navigate their undergraduate experience. She is proud to be a member of the Persistence Advising Network (PAN), a network of faculty and staff from across the university who provides individualized support and referrals to students for whom personal or academic obstacles interfere with their normal campus immersion and progress to degree.

Sloan believes Khoury College is extremely interdisciplinary and inclusive, providing many pathways for students to incorporate computer science into their education, whether it’s a combined major, a minor, or a program related to the field.
