Biography

Andrew van der Poel is an assistant teaching professor at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. He primarily teaches theory courses, including algorithms, discrete structures, and theory of computation. 

Before joining Northeastern in 2020, van der Poel obtained his doctorate from North Carolina State University, where his dissertation focused on graph modification algorithms for graphs near structural classes. He worked as a lecturer at Khoury College for a year and a half before earning a promotion to assistant teaching professor. 

He has published work at the IPEC, SDM, and ALENEX conferences, and his participated at AMS, SODA, SIAM, WAW, ICERM, and the Moore Foundation. Outside of work, van der Poel follows or plays more than a half dozen different sports; he and his wife captain a local co-ed soccer team and have seen all 30 MLB teams play in person.
