Biography

Amir Tahmasebi is a part-time lecturer in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.

Tahmasebi teaches “Natural Language Processing” at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is passionate about sharing his skills and experience with students to help motivate their career decisions. In his research, Tahmasebi tackles challenging clinical problems using modern machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.

In addition to his Khoury role, Tahmasebi is a director of data science at Becton Dickinson, a medical device company, where he crafts innovation strategy for the Smart Connected Care platform. He also established and expanded the company’s data science team to support research and development in the areas of machine learning and AI. Prior to Becton Dickinson, Tahmasebi held director-level machine learning and AI positions at several other companies such as Ciitizen, Enlitic Inc., CodaMetrix, and Philips. He holds more than 30 patents in the US and worldwide, publishes regularly, and speaks at conferences and workshops, with a focus on the use of AI natural language processing and computer vision in the health care space.

Outside of work, Tahmasebi is a youth- and college-level soccer referee for US Officials and NISOA.
