Scholarship and Funding Opportunities

Current students who demonstrate leadership in academia and the university community can benefit from the numerous Khoury College scholarship opportunities that are available.

While no financial assistance is guaranteed, this information may be helpful to advocate on your behalf should funds become available.

Scholarships for undergraduate students

Bradley E. Bailey Scholarship

The Bradley E. Bailey Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 by Thomas E. Bailey, Jr., in memory of his son, Bradley E. Bailey, who graduated from Northeastern University’s computer science program in 1998. The scholarship provides up to $2,000 in funding for current Khoury students who have demonstrated financial need, good academic achievement, and soundness of character.

The donor asks that award recipients assume the moral obligation to reimburse the fund in future years, if they are able, in order to make additional aid available for more students. When the donor is visiting the Boston area, he has also requested a meeting with scholarship recipients.

Eligibility requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences
  • Student in their third, fourth, or fifth year
  • US citizen, permanent resident, or US national

Awards may also be determined by the following

  • Cumulative GPA and academic standing
  • Demonstrated financial need

Assessment and selection

A selection committee will be assembled from various Khoury team members to allow for diverse perspectives in the evaluation of applications. A rubric will be provided that allows the committee to assess the application materials against the questions posed to prospective applicants. Preference will also be given to applicants who have greater demonstrated financial need at Northeastern.

Darwin Scholarship

The Darwin Scholarship Fund was established by Brian Perry and Greg Moody, alumni of Khoury College of Computer Sciences, through Versal Charities. The fund was established to provide awards of up to $2,000 to deserving current Khoury College students who have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students with high academic excellence and strength of character.

Eligibility requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student at Khoury College of Computer Sciences
  • Student in their third, fourth, or fifth year
  • US citizen, permanent resident, or US national
  • Commitment to academic success, and preference will be given to applicants with a 3.50 GPA or higher
  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need

A rubric will be provided that allows the committee to assess the application materials against the questions posed to prospective applicants. Preference will also be given to applicants who have greater demonstrated financial need at Northeastern.

Four Gavin Brothers Experiential Learning Scholarship

The fund will provide up to $5,000 funding to students who may not otherwise be able to afford to participate in experiential learning opportunities. The fund may be used to support such opportunities that include but are not limited to traveling to conferences and co-ops, sponsoring independent research, or scholarships for international dialogues.

The fund may also be used to provide stipends to students who are participating in what would otherwise be a nonpaying or low-paying co-op position. Recipients of funding must be full-time undergraduate students at Khoury College of Computer Sciences. Students will be eligible for additional support in succeeding years.

Jane K. Wenzinger Scholarship

The Jane K. Wenzinger Scholarship Fund was established by Brian Wenzinger, who graduated from Khoury College of Computer Sciences in 1989, in memory of his mother, Jane K. Wenzinger. The fund was established to provide awards of up to $10,000 to deserving current Khoury College students who have demonstrated financial need, good academic achievement, and strength of character. Preference will be given to students of a single-parent family.

Eligibility requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences
  • Student in their third, fourth, or fifth year
  • US citizen, permanent resident, or US national
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need

Max Thomas Explore the World Scholarship

The Max Thomas Explore the World Fund offers Khoury College students the opportunity to participate in global experiential learning opportunities, such as global co-op, study abroad, Dialogue of Civilizations, and more. The fund provides up to $5,000 in assistance.

Eligibility requirements

All scholarship applicants must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student at Khoury College of Computer Sciences
  • Intend to participate in an eligible global experience during the indicated semester
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Services

Awards may also be determined by the following

  • Cumulative GPA and academic standing
  • Length of global experience
  • Quality of global experience

Jelly Incubation Fund

The Jelly Incubation Fund provides monetary support for innovative and unique out-of-classroom initiatives. Through the generosity of Chris Jelly (BSCS ’14) and additional donors, students are eligible to receive up to $5,000 to support an entrepreneurial project or co-op

Students must submit an application to receive funding. Applications should include a basic overview and justification for the project, identified users, timeline, budget, and relevance to Khoury College and Northeastern.

If you plan to utilize funds for a full-time co-op, the project must meet Northeastern’s co-op requirements and you must discuss the opportunity with your co-op coordinator prior to submitting your application.

Applications may also be submitted to fund other entrepreneurial projects and initiatives, such as unique student-led research efforts, the creation of a new organization within Khoury College, or the development of prototype software projects that benefit the Northeastern community.

Khoury College Student Experience Fund

The fund will provide financial assistance to students who may not otherwise be able to afford to participate in experiential learning opportunities or global experiences. The fund may be used to support such opportunities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Sponsoring independent research
  • Providing stipends to students who are participating in what would otherwise be a nonpaying or low paying co-op position
  • Assisting with travel and other expenses for students who are attending a conference, accepted into a study abroad program, or will be working at a co-op outside of the United States
  • Providing scholarships to students who are participating in a Dialogue of Civilizations program or other study abroad opportunities

VICEROY DECREE Virtual Institute Scholarship

The Virtual Institutes for Cyber and Electromagnetic Spectrum Research and Employ DoD Electromagnetic and Cyber Research and Experiential Education Virtual Institute (VICEROY DECREE) is a consortium of four universities created in close collaboration with the Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Information Base partners to address recruitment and training challenges faced in DoD-related cyber and Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) fields. The goal of the program is to grow the availability of well-qualified and trained students with essential knowledge, skills, and abilities required to plan, synchronize, and lead DoD-related cyber and EMS operations.

Eligibility requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student (preferably sophomore or junior)
  • Must fulfill specific academic requirements and course prerequisites
  • US citizen, permanent resident, or US national

Assessment and selection

The scholarship board will assess candidates feasibility in successfully completing the required curricula. Scholarship board will also prioritize candidates based on:

  • Academic GPA
  • Curricular achievements
  • ROTC achievements
  • Marginalized, and/or historically underrepresented students
