Biography

Ahmed Mahmoud A. Ibrahim is a part-time lecturer in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.

A major throughline of Ibrahim’s decade and a half in medicine and public health has been the management and use of data. In his early years as a pediatrician and oncologist, that meant balancing care with informatics projects like paperless automation of department operations. Later, as a physician informaticist at Boston Children’s Hospital, it meant designing and implementing the systems required to prescribe chemotherapy through the hospital’s electronic health records. Throughout his career as a physician, Ibrahim has found that most human activities rely on data and can be improved by analyzing and understanding that data effectively, which is what motivated him to join Khoury College’s health informatics program.

Ibrahim’s favorite part of his role as an educator is demonstrating how data analytics relates to a wide variety of fields, drawing connections and inspiring excitement for his students from non-CS backgrounds like medicine, pharmacy, dental practice, and engineering. He believes that a strong grasp on data is an essential skill for modern toolboxes, and he enjoys guiding students through complex concepts to a meaningful and practical understanding.

In his free time, Ibrahim enjoys sailing, cycling, and tinkering with vintage electronics.
