Biography

Sam Ferguson is a part-time lecturer at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University’s Arlington, Virginia campus. He earned his bachelor’s in creative writing from the Bard College at Simon’s Rock, his two master’s degrees in physics and mathematical sciences from the University of Iowa, and his PhD in mathematics from New York University. 

He has received the Metro NExT Teaching Grant and the DC NexT Teaching Fellowship and has been published in multiple journals: Communications in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Notices of the American Mathematical Society, Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, Discrete Mathematics. Ferguson is also a research scientist at Metron, Inc and teaches night classes at local universities throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

Outside of work, he is also a Mexican resident who enjoys eating tacos and learning about the culture, myths, and architectural works of the Mayan and Aztec peoples. Ferguson is also passionate about theater and has written plays about diverse subjects of history and fantasy.
