40 for 40: Profiles of individuals integral to Khoury’s success
40 for 40 Honoree: Dr. Amin J. Khoury
When selecting Khoury College’s first “40 for 40” honoree, the choice was clear: Dr. Amin J. Khoury.
Dr. Amin Khoury’s many contributions epitomize the spirit of a 40 for 40 honoree: an individual instrumental to the College’s 40-year trajectory of growth, innovation, and ongoing contribution to society. “The Khoury family’s generosity and vision is unprecedented in the College’s 40-year history,” said Dean Beth Mynatt. “We would not be a national leader without his support.”

Dr. Khoury, an accomplished entrepreneur who earned his MBA at Northeastern, has launched and scaled companies in a variety of fields, including medical products, medical services, aerospace manufacturing, aerospace distribution, and oilfield services. He and his late wife, Julie, met at Northeastern while she was also earning her MBA. Together, they established the Khoury College of Computer Sciences in 2018 with a $50 million gift to the university.
“It’s really about helping the university prepare learners to be able to address the challenges of their time—machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and so forth,” he says of his investment in Khoury College. “The College already has an excellent faculty, and these resources will help Khoury College further separate itself from competitors in terms of preparing learners to become leaders. We’re going to help thousands of learners, some of whom will become wildly successful entrepreneurs.”

The Khoury family’s transformational philanthropy has been pivotal across all facets of the College, impacting student experience, faculty excellence, cutting-edge research, and innovative programming. Their support has remained interdisciplinary in focus, perhaps best exemplified by the separately funded Amin J. and Julie E. Khoury Endowed Scholarship Fund for undergraduate students pursuing technological entrepreneurial studies. As innovative and philanthropic exemplars, the Khoury family’s influence continues to be felt across Northeastern. Through their generosity, they have established meaningful connections with rising leaders in our community.
Dr. Khoury holds many Northeastern distinctions. In 1999, the Northeastern Alumni Association recognized Dr. Khoury with the Medallion Award, an honor celebrating the achievements of alumni selected on the basis of professional accomplishment, character, integrity, and service to Northeastern. In 2017, Dr. Khoury was honored with Northeastern’s inaugural Distinguished Entrepreneur Award. In 2019, Dr. Khoury was awarded an honorary doctorate, and in 2022, he received the Presidential Medallion, the university’s highest honor.
The distinction that most matters to Amin Khoury? The meaningful and lasting impact that Khoury graduates, researchers, and scholarship grantees make in the world every day.
