Biography
Armando Cortez is a part-time lecturer in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.
Cortez is fascinated by the co-evolution of healthcare and technology, a passion he has pursued for decades. Most recently, he joined Harbor Health Services, Inc. as chief information officer, where he works on big-picture digital strategies that support frontline medical staff with health technology and ensure high-quality patient experiences. Before that, he worked in health care IT for Boston Medical Center, AllWays Health Partners, and the University of Texas Health San Antonio; worked on medical data management products and applications for Meditech Inc., Perceptive Informatics Inc., and Nova Biomedical; and worked in medical information systems management and clinical informatics for Mass General Brigham and Pfizer.
Cortez also cares deeply about supporting and guiding the next generation of health informatics professionals, and has taught “Introduction to Health Informatics” since fall 2022. He enjoys helping his students keep up with rapid advances in health care and technology, as well as exploring new and imaginative ways to combine the two fields.
In his limited free time, Cortez enjoys playing video games.
