My Background

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a degree in Political Science and International Relations and a minor in French Language Studies. Before the Align program, I was still deciding whether to pursue a law degree or switch my study path to computer science.

My interest in computer science comes from my view of the discipline as the art of thinking about problems using logic, pattern recognition, and sub-division into more minor issues. After much deliberation, I decided that a path in tech would be the best route for me. With help from the Align program, I can bridge my experiences into the technology industry. I believe the versatility of a computer science degree will allow me to use my interdisciplinary problem-solving skills to deal with obstacles from a different perspective.

Bridge

The bridge part of the program was probably the most challenging experience, and yet, I feel prepared for post-Align classes. Since I have no coding and strong math background, the support system from professors, TAs, advisors, and peers makes sure I will excel in the classes.

My Future

Ever since I completed the bridge portion of the program, my interests have shifted so much. When I first started my journey as a computer science graduate student, my goal was to only focus on UX/UI design and development. Now, my current study mainly focuses on human-centered AI, data science, and how algorithms play a role in racial bias, especially in the online dating setting. With a degree in computer science, I want to be in a career that would allow me to use my interdisciplinary knowledge to produce edge-cutting products and technology and start a non-profit organization to mentor underprivileged students with new innovative programs to narrow their higher education interests.
