current undergrad firstyear students
All new students at Khoury College are required to have a laptop. We don’t require either Mac or PC—you’re welcome to choose whichever type of computer you prefer within the recommended systems parameters:
- Minimum of 16 GB of internal memory
- As much hard disk space as you can afford (256 GB or above is recommended)
- Display of 13” with higher resolution so it’s easier to code (14” is preferred)
- Insurance is recommended

Course registration for first-year students happens during orientation when your academic advisor will work with you to select first-semester courses. Please note that all Khoury College undergraduates must take two required courses as part of the first-semester curriculum: “Fundamentals of Computer Science 1” and “Discrete Structures.” Data Science majors and data science combined majors will choose between “Programming with Data” and “Fundamentals of Computer Science 1.”
