Biography
Marie A. Maloney is a senior lecturer and associate program director for health informatics at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. She earned her master’s in health informatics at Northeastern, having joined the first class of the program. Maloney earned her bachelor’s in biology from Queens College and also attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. At Northeastern, she teaches HINF 5101: Introduction to Health Informatics and Health Information Systems and HINF 6202: Business of Healthcare Informatics.
Apart from being an information technology and healthcare informatics educator, she is the chief executive officer of AEGIS Informatics in Rhode Island. Maloney collaborates with clinical leadership to develop and support innovative care management approaches for dual eligible populations and government programs. She has been a chief information officer for several leading health care organizations in the Northeast, including Boston Medical Center’s HealthNet Plan, Senior Whole Health of New York and Massachusetts, and other health plans. Maloney was the president of the New England Chapter of HIMSS in 2014-15 and now holds the position of vice president in the organization. By leading the implementation and transition to advanced, state of the art systems, she has driven IT transformation by aligning IT and business strategies. Maloney directed the development of integrated data warehouses that provide the analytics that are vital to improving the quality of healthcare delivery and cost reduction among high-risk populations.
Maloney has a passion for health care and the role that informatics plays in the industry. Her career has given Maloney an opportunity to contribute to the field’s development. She enjoys sharing her passion and vision for the field’s evolution with her students, who are entering the field or seeking opportunities to advance their skills. Maloney enjoys hearing students’ perspectives on how changes in healthcare affect them both personally and at work.
Maloney’s hometown is Hingham, Massachusetts. However, she grew up in New York City in Brooklyn and Queens, where she was exposed to health care challenges of immigrant populations, which sparked her interest in the field.
