Mohammad Amin Kharraz

Biography

Amin is a PhD student in the Information Assurance program at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Engin Kirda. Amin’s research interests span a wide range of topics in systems security, focusing on operating systems, binary analysis, and malware and botnet detection. He is a member of Northeastern’s Secure Systems Laboratory (SecLab) located in 132 Nightingale Hall. Before joining Northeastern, Amin was a research assistant at the High Performance Computing Architectures and Networks (HPCAN) Laboratory, at Sharif University of Technology, located in Tehran, Iran.

What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?

So far, I am involved in multiple projects in systems security, collaborating with multiple research labs in the United States and Europe.

What are your research interests?

My research focus covers multiple areas of systems security, with a special focus in malware research, binary analysis, and web security.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

I would like to design systems that can better identify new cyber-attacks in the world.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

Real world security problems requires efficient and practical defense approaches. The most interesting part of my research is to analyze these problems and design applied solutions for them.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

Analyzing cyber-attacks and designing efficient defense solutions to combat them.
