Biography
Farnaz is a PhD student in the Computer Science program at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Andrea Parker. Farnaz earned both her bachelor's degree in software engineering and master's degree in computer engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, in Iran. Her research areas include human-centered computing and personal health informatics, and she is in the Wellness Technology Lab at Northeastern.
Her studies in public health and social science have lead Farnaz to an interest in using social-technology to help youth advocacy and civic engagement. She is also interested in designing technologies that could help address health and wellness disparities.
What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?
I am interested in designing technologies to address health/wellness disparities.
What are your research interests?
One specific area of my interest is understanding how social technology could support youth advocacy and civic engagement.
What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?
I would like to learn how visualization tools and creativity tools can help youth advocates collaboratively understand their social capital and brainstorm new initiatives, developing innovative ideas that leverage the ingenuity of the collective.
What aspect of what you do is most interesting?
I find the interdisciplinary aspect of my research very fascinating. I get to learn a lot about public health, social science and psychology. I also love the process of user-centered design.
